FAQ's

How much can I expect to save on my fuel bill if DFC's funds our project?

Some of the factors that affect your fuel savings include DFC's capital outlay, yearly fuel consumption, contract length and credit. Customers using DFC's range of services can expect to save between 20%-30% on their current fuel bill. Once the contract expires, you will be left with a dual-fuel system and will be able to take advantage of expected continued gas-oil price disparity.

Will my fuel bill vary from month to month?

No, when you sign a contract with DFC we lock in your fuel rate for the length of the contract. So if your contract is for 3 years you will have the same fuel price every month for 3 years.

What are the cost components of a conversion project?

No two conversion projects are alike but listed below are the most common determinants of the conversion costs:
• Engineering Plans and Project Specifications
• Burner Replacenment
• Boiler Replacement
• Natural Gas Piping
• Chimney Lining
• Tank repair work
• Building proximity to gas line
• Inspection Codes and Compliance
• Con Edison or National Grid Infrastructure
• Landscaping

How long does the process take?

The actual work done by the vendors should take around 3 months. However due to the demand for gas conversions there is currently a severe backlog for projects commissioned within the 5 boroughs.

What is the impact of the project on the day to day management of the property?

There is relatively little impact on day to day management of your building. Compared to other capital improvements your building may undertake (elevators, floors), a conversion project takes place either outside your building, or in areas of the building that people don't generally access.

What is the difference between firm and interruptible?

Interruptible service is transport service that is not guaranteed. Utilities can generally cease service with short notice. The total cost is usually less than firm service. Interruptible service is less reliable by definition. Since firm Service is offered on a guaranteed basis, buyer will generally pay a total charge that is greater than the charge for interruptible service.

Must I remove my heating oil tank? Do I have an option of burning oil in the future?

If you choose an interruptible plan, then you must keep your oil tank and maintain a 10 day minimum supply of oil. If you choose a firm plan, then your options are either removing the tank, or filling it with material that complies with federal EPA Standards.

What are the price components of gas? (nymex, basis, transport)

There are three main components of natural gas pricing.

1. Interstate Transportation – Transporting natural gas on interstate pipeline from production area to service area
2. Natural Gas Commodity – Actual Fuel costs as listed on the New York Mercantile Exchange (NYMEX)
3. Utility Distribution or Delivery – Delivery of gas from utility company to customers meter.

What rebates/incentives am I eligible for?

DFC can educate you on incentives currently available from state entities and local utility efficiency programs.

How do I know if my building can receive natural gas?

Dual Fuel files a load letter with the local utility. The utility will evaluate the expected load of the building vs. the current availability of gas in the area.

Is a contract with DFC a secured loan?

No, when you sign a contract with DFC all you sign is a UCC-1.
